Our vision

Connecting every device,
across every protocol,
with one open bridge.

May 2024

Born from a real need

While working on a home automation project, we needed to connect several ESP boards communicating via ESP-NOW to an MQTT network. From this challenge, the concept of a universal bridge—Bifrost—was born.

July 2024

First attempts and early code

The first prototype was a simple script aiming to bridge ESP-NOW and MQTT. Although it didn’t work as expected, it marked the beginning of Bifrost’s development and helped us identify key technical challenges.

May 2025

Project revival

After months on hold, Bifrost was revived with the opportunity to be showcased at our university's Research Expo. This milestone brought new motivation and led to major improvements in the project.

June 2025

Functional prototype with Raspberry Pi

First working prototype integrates an ESP32 and a Raspberry Pi via serial. This enabled data processing, database storage, and reliable bridging between ESP-NOW and MQTT.

Future

Unified gateway & full protocol mesh

Our goal is to build a seamless gateway combining LoRa, Zigbee, ESP-NOW, and MQTT—enabling two-way communication across protocols, local automation, and complete data control with an integrated database.

Protocols

ESP-NOW logo

ESP-NOW

A protocol developed by Espressif for direct device-to-device communication over Wi-Fi, without the need for routers. Ideal for fast mesh networks with low power consumption.
